Ministry overview.....

Ministry and Music has been central to my life - along with story / poetry and song writing.

in the beginnning...

Youth work.  For most years from 1985 I have been involved in Youth work in a voluntary capacity.  In this time I know that there had been much achieved.  I have friends and letters that can testify to the fact that through these endeavours real relationships with God grew, hearts were changed and hearts were comforted by God’s love.  I believe this has been God’s specific call on my life, and he has blessed the ventures that he has laid on my heart.

Music.  I have been organizing liturgies since 1985 and mostly these have involved youth masses.  Almost any camp or conference that I have been a part of, my music gift has been utilized and in many of these cases I have been the organizer.  Along side of my music however, is an ability to communicate a message.  Some times this is in the form of what I say, and at other times it is through my original songs. I have also written many "user friendly" parts of the mass and liturgical songs.
Since 1997 I have been playing piano and singing in restaurants and to stay contemporary for this I have made it a priority to keep in touch with the most modern music.  This is handy as there is a wealth of interesting philosophies to draw upon and use in presenting a relevant Gospel message.

Christian Camps. I enjoy organizing Christian Camps.
The first Christian camp that I organized was in 1986.  This was affirmed by the Mackay Charismatic group, whose input and support was in the form of the cooking, cleaning and supervision.  I organized a camp the following year which was a huge success.  I actually ended up in hospital on that week-end, but it was so thoroughly organized in all details that it ran effectively without me.

My association with Mercy College, through my ex-husband, meant that I continued to organize camps - I would generally be creative and come up with a theme and outline for the Christian living camps and then we would draw upon teachers and our YAP group ( a young adult bible study group), and other Christian contacts to help run the week-end. I usually ran at least one session myself.

My CD available in a number of stores... It's played on radio stations internationally.

Antioch / Youth Mass / Christian Band.  Through this group I formed strong friendships with the gifted people, with whom Fr. Don White started us singing together for the St. Joseph Youth Masses, and through whose influence we became involved as a support to the north Mackay Antioch couple.  With these people our band was formed that became known as “Nothing to do with Shoelaces”.  All those in the band became part of our YAP group and were involved in the Christian living camps and many, many other ecumenical events in Mackay.

Religious education / Liturgy retreats and conferences.  Moving to Rockhampton in 1996 opened more opportunities and adventures as I was involved in state high school RE and retreats with teenagers, but also for the first time was involved in a retreat for adults, the catachists.... this was hugely successfull also. Along with my ex-husband we ran liturgy workshops and were involved in eccumenical camps.

Club spirit.  With the diocesan youth worker and the cathedral parish worker, we instigated a form of "Spirituality in the Pub" which we called "club spirit".

Scripture Union Regional committee.  In both Rockhampton and Mackay I was invited to be part of ecumenical organizing committees including the Scripture Union regional committee in both areas.  I am very comfortable and at home in any Christian service whether it is Pentecostal, evangelical or orthodox.  I am respected by many ministers and pastors and have been invited to share my original songs in places such as Anglican, Baptist, Christian Outreach Centre, Salvation Army, Uniting, Church of Christ, Mackay Christian City, etc.  I am always at ease because I know my faith and I stand totally secure in my relationship with God.  This is very quickly picked up by those in these churches and they accept me as part of Christ’s body and their own spiritual family.

Youth Groups.  Also through this association with Mercy college I took the initiative and formed a youth group called “Club Rock” which had a weekly after school meeting, run by myself and another interested teacher.  In 2004 I began co-running a youth group in Walkerston with the Anglican minister who is the “adopted” chaplain of the Walkerston state school.

Bible study group.  Our YAP group was a young adult group that met weekly for bible study, Christian discussion and lots of social, although the social took place on week ends or after work or any time anything was happening.  The YAP group was also one of my initiatives.  I decided that I wanted more than just going to church.  So, with my husband and his brother and another close friend we began very informally and from small beginnings big things grew.  That small beginning was in 1991, and only stopped meeting about the middle of 2000.

Going back and listing just some.....

MINISTRY OVERVIEW CONTINUED...

Guest Artist for Christian events.  Through my music, I have been invited to be guest artist at events. These are numerous and as far reaching as Brisbane and Blackall.

LinC.  Since beginning the music degree in March of 2001, I have been a member of LINC, the Christian group at the University.  The conservatorium of music was not until exam week, on campus, and so I instigated a lunch time prayer at our campus.   In 2005 I became the president of this group.  LinC would meet weekly for lunch time bible study and prayer.  Each week was run by a different person, most often a guest minister, or a group member.

Western Mission.  In June 2003, I helped with the western mission (Scripture union initiative) youth program. This was held at Wandoan, Qld.

Speaker.  I was asked to fill in for a minister to give a short talk and open in prayer at the ceremony of senior investiture at Mirani State high school.  The minister who asked me to fill in for him has invited me to preach at his church on occasions and encouraged me to give talks at other churches upon the commencement of the year to make people aware of LinC.

Stories.  I have written stories at times which have been used very successfully both for church purposes and for school lessons.  At two separate schools, which two different stories, the teachers have requested a copy of the story.

Workshop presenter

Early in 2005 I was asked by Diane Rowan to run a workshop for the Bishops in-service, student free day at Mercy College Mackay.

The theme was breaking down walls and I presented this using music, power point, games and stories.

The theme explored the story of Joshua breaking down the walls of Jericho and looking at the spiritual principles and the various walls in our own lives.

Does the ability to do complicated hair styles and make up count as a gift???

I have been involved in stage and performance since I was a child.  Therefore I am experienced with stage ettiquette, make-up and other aspects.

Also, I'm experienced with setting up PA systems!  Very!  I set one up each time I work in the local restaurants and clubs.
